F.I.I.T.E.

"F. I. I. T. E." is the festival where it all comes together. An annual festival held in Senegal, F. I. I. T. E. is about coming together and uniting as people to share and experience the power of collective music making.

What does F.I.I.T.E. stand for? “Festival Interscolaire des Instruments Traditionnels pour Enfants”; in English: International Inter-scholar Festival of Traditional Instruments for Children. But F.I.I.T.E. has another meaning in Wolof, the most widely spoken traditional language in Senegal; Bravery.

F.I.I.T.E. is an annual festival where we explore all sides of our humanity! From music, crafts, dance, art, oral storytelling, community projects, home life visits, cultural site visits, and more, F.I.I.T.E. aims to be the place where everything we do comes together in a 10-day program in Foudiougne, Senegal!

Why did we choose Foundiougne? This is because we wanted to choose a place that was outside of the city where we would help build bridges between urban and rural Senegal. With the growing increase between cosmopolitans and provincials, it is important that in order for us to move forward together we have to connect and join together as one. Speaking of bridges, Foudiougne is also a symbolic place that features a literal bridge over the river that connects Dakar and Foundiougne, a physical reminder that we are connected.

This summer camp is a fantastic way to help your child connect with others, grow musically, expand culturally, and deepen their understanding of humanity!
